A Personal Trainer for Less?

Have you ever taken a fitness class and only two other people showed up? Remember how great that workout was and how the instructor really paid attention to you? Or maybe the instructor corrected your form in a way that really changed your workout? Then you probably already know how great semi-private or small group training sessions can be. Whilst 1-2-1 will always be the option where your personal trainer gives you the most attention, semi-private is the next best thing - if not better because you benefit from the social aspect, too.

So what are some of the other benefits of Semi Private Training?

1) Coaching and Learning.

At Core Training we aim to educate you on how to achieve your goals and, importantly, why we are doing what we are doing. In a semi-private setting, like personal training, we are able to provide more personalised check ins and feedback, so that we are constantly helping you to understand what you need to do to achieve your goals.

2) Progress Tracking.

We will be using a variety of metrics to measure and track progress for semi-private members: strength, mobility, fitness, muscle circumference and body composition changes (how your clothes fit etc.). TO us, using this multi-faceted approach will be far more useful than relying solely on body weight changes (though we do still use body weight as a metric on request). Once your nutrition is dialled in and your training is going to plan, there is no reason why you can’t hit your goals.

3) Scaled

Even though it is a group-based workout, it is still catered towards you. We all need the big movements squats (sitting up and down through out the day), deadlifts (picking things off the floor), pulling and pushing movements. However, they will be catered to the individual and their abilities. Moreover the supersets and accessory work will be tailored to each individual and their goals. While you will be training in a group setting, the workout will always be individualised to you, your needs and your goals.

4) Social

This is the key aspect that has a leg up on even 1-2-1 training. Very few social events nowadays are centered around exercise. So this could be the perfect opportunity to make some new friends. On top of this, studies have shown that we can actually get better progress from training in a small group environment than a 1-2-1 setting.

5) Your 60-minute session is sorted

How many times do you go to the gym, do the same things or waste time trying to think what to do. This is a way for you to come into the gym, have a set plan and a set amount of time, during which you will be encouraged to push yourself and progress from week to week and month to month.

6) Pricing

Another benefit of semi-private training is a lower price point when compare to 1-2-1 training. When compared to our 1-2-1 monthly subscriptions, semi-private comes in 40% cheaper! While you sacrifice the 1-2-1 attention during your sessions, you still receive all of the support outside of your sessions (nutritional guidance, weekly check ins, measurements etc).

Yes a gym membership may be cheaper, but if you aren’t using it because there’s no one to keep you accountable, or if all you’re using it for is to go run on the treadmill for half an hour, you aren’t getting the most out of it.

Individualised, small group workouts are a recent innovation and relatively uncommon in the personal fitness industry. Now, it’s not necessarily for everyone - some people will prefer and respond better to a 1-2-1 approach, but the results speak for themselves! Some recent studies have shown that those participating in small, individualised group training respond and progress even better than counterparts in 1-2-1 training. So, it’s definitely worth a try! If you want an approach to training that improves self-efficacy, helps you achieve your goals and gives you the benefits of social interaction, then Semi-Private is definitely for you.
